Title

Development of Speaking Skills in Preschoolers

Research Question

What strategies can the Teacher use to develop speaking skills in 5 year-old preschoolers?

Target population: Preschool English teachers, Preschool teachers.

Participants suggested: 20

Summary

Based on the experience of the presenter, speaking skill in 5 year-old students is one of the most difficult skills to be developed in an effective and natural mode. One of the main reasons of prior is because most teachers focus on simple repetition of vocabulary (introduction of words). Nevertheless, this skill should be one of the easiest by taking advantage of curiosity and lack of embarrassment characterizing students of this age.

Workshop aims at explaining two strategies to develop effective speaking skills: Oral Mentor Text (Dierking, 2014) and (basic) Role plays. Workshop will be divided in three stages: presentation of concepts and methodology, provision of examples (step by step) carried out by presenter (both, images and video), and time to develop, present, and receive feedback on an Oral Mentor text created in groups of 4 members.
